It looks like there might be tough times ahead for those entering the clinical psychology profession. According to a recent story in the Wall Street Journal, information taken from the 2010 US Census shows that graduates who have undergrad degrees with majors in clinical psychology have the highest rate of unemployment, at almost 20%. Is it time to change your dream profession to another? Personally speaking, I feel that it is too early to tell.
I feel this way because the information from the report details those with undergrad degrees. Those with graduate degrees are much better off and are able to secure top positions. Due to the amount of competition in the field, a masters degree is minimum in order to be taken seriously an a PHD to rise to the cream of the crop. And it goes without saying that in order to reach the top of the clinical psychology salary scale, experience and education mean everything.
